For MSI-4260 Port-A-Weigh Crane Scales
Q: Can I increase the lifting capacity of my scale by recalibrating it to a higher capacity?
A: No. Lifting capacity is specific to the load cell design. Although you can change the capacity setting on the scale electronically, its mechanical structure is still designed for a specific, maximum lifting capacity.
Q: What should I do if my scale does not turn on?
A: Check your power source. Make sure it is connected and that you have the required power to turn it on. Check the fuse. Every MSI product comes equipped with a fuse on the main power line, call the factory if you cannot find it.
Q: What kind of yearly maintenance does the factory recommend?
A: 1) All O-rings and seals should be checked and replaced if necessary.
2) The load train should be inspected and lubricated.
3) Check the calibration to determine if it needs to be recalibrated.
Q: Why does my scale flash an overload message with loads less than capacity?
A: Check to see if you are weighing in net mode. If so, you tared weight to zero the scale, and the capacity of the scale is reduced by that tare amount. The scale load cell is intended to lift only a specific amount of gross (actual) weight. Even though the scale reads below capacity in net mode, it may exceed the scale's actual lifting capacity.
Q: I have a Port-a-Weigh with an LCD display, but there is not enough contrast to read the display. What should I do?
A: Is your scale's backlight working? If not, check your owner's manual to make sure your unit is equipped with a backlight (early versions may not). The backlight should activate automatically in low-light environments. Either the backlight lamp is burned out, or the scale senses that it is not dark enough to turn on the light. You can fool the scale into sensing a darker environment by placing tape over the light sensor (located in the bottom right corner of the display). Note that the use of the backlight reduces battery life.
